Metaling Construction Sets
and
Meccano Spain Construction Sets

In around 1930, a Spanish company (Novedades Poch. SA) started to sell a Meccano look-alike system under the 'Metaling' name. In around 1932 this Spanish company came to an agreement with Meccano(Liverpool) to produce Meccano under license and the sets were renamed as Meccano. This continued right up to the mid 1980s. Note that in the mid 1970s, the system reverted to being called 'Metaling', although these sets still used the standard Meccano parts of the period. The system can be divided into a number of periods.

Metaling(a): c1930 to c1932 - Novedades Poch. SA sold look-alike Meccano sets under the 'Metaling' name.

Meccano Spain(a): c1932 to 1964 - Novedades Poch. SA sold 1930s Meccano sets and parts which then continued unchanged right up to 1964.

Meccano Spain(b): 1964 to 1969 - Meccano sets 0-8 from the then current UK range using UK manuals. In 1969 Novedades Poch. SA stopped selling Meccano sets

Meccano Spain(c): 1969 to 1970/1 - In 1969 Exin-Lines Bros. S.A. took over the manufacture Meccano sets in Spain. They sold Meccano sets 1 to 5 as per the 1970 UK range.

Metaling(b): 1970 to 1976 - Novedades Poch. SA reverted to the Metaling name to market their sets. However they did come to an agreement with Meccano during this period as in 1974 they started sell the Meccano Army and Highway multikits and the Clock kit.

Meccano (Metaling) Spain(d): 1976 to mid 1980s - Novedades Poch. SA started selling the current standard Meccano sets again - many under the Meccano-Metaling or Metaling name.
