Rasti Construction Sets

RASTI was originally made by Modellspielwaren Dr.Hasel & Co in Baden, Germany, from 1966. It was a Lego-like plastic construction system. The Rasti brick had studs with a protruding ring and elastic clamps beneath. When connected, the clamps would click in place, locking on to the stud rings. The locking was so strong that the bricks had to be separated with a small crow-bar supplied with the boxes. The construction method allows joining pieces with some pressure, locking the blocks by deformation of the semi-rigid plastic pins. This system avoids the fragility and instability in the models, giving a solidity not given by another construction toy or block system.

A few years later in the late 1960s, a factory was established in Argentina. But the locking system, its innovative ground, was also its weakness because the bricks were so awkward to unlock. The system was manufactured in Germany until the 1980s. Production continued in Argentina for a while before being moved to Brazil. However production moved back to Argentina in 2007 and Rasti is currently still made there by Juguetes Rasti S.A. In addition to the traditional sets they also do three educational robotic sets for teaching programming - OKi 1, OKi 1 plus & Ok2.
